How is Attribution Calculated

Understanding how attribution is calculated is imperative to gauging performance. Below explains how Convergence measures its results.

We only take credit when we can show we reached your customer first.

Not every transaction that happens during a campaign was influenced by it. Rather than claim everything that moves, we count a transaction only when all four of the following are true.

01 We actually reached them

A text message went out to that customer from your dealership's messaging line. Not a name on a list, not a record we loaded — a message that was genuinely sent. We check every number we hold for them, including home and work lines, because the number that reaches someone is often not the one labeled "mobile."

02 We reached them first — and recently

The message was sent before the transaction, within the 90 days leading up to it. If a customer transacts and we message them afterward, we do not claim it. The window keeps credit tied to outreach recent enough to have plausibly influenced the decision.

03 The outreach matched the outcome

We only credit a campaign for the kind of business it was built to drive. A service campaign is never credited with a vehicle sale, and a sales campaign is never credited with a repair order. Email-only campaigns and list-only work carry no text outreach, so they are excluded from this measure entirely.

04 They had not opted out

If a customer opted out of messaging before they transacted, we take no credit for it. If they opted out after, it still counts — the outreach had already done its work. Opt-out status is judged as of the transaction date, never as of today.

What we leave on the table

  • Customers we never messaged
  • Transactions that happened before our message went out
  • Business a campaign wasn't built to drive — a sale credited to a service campaign, or the reverse
  • Customers who had already opted out

These may still appear in your dealership's own totals — we simply won't claim them.

Conservative by design. Every attributed transaction traces back to a message we can point to.
